Bhutan is known by various names like “The Kingdom in the Sky”, “The Land of the Hidden Treasures”, “Land of the Thunder Dragon”
Bhutan is an extra ordinary place, the land where chillies are not just considered as seasoning but a main vegetable or a main dish and where the rice is red instead of white, the only “Carbon Negative County in the world”
To your surprise, the country has never been conquered and was isolated from rest of the world till 1970, televisions and internet were introduced in 2001. Refusing food the first time is a custom, there are no traffic lights till now. Production and sale of tobacco is not allowed in Bhutan. The growth is not measured in GDP but it is all about GNH “Gross national happiness”. Bhutan does not have even a single butcher shop across the land.
Bhutan is located in the mountains however does not welcome mountaineers to disturb the ecology and therefore the highest unclimbed mountain in the world is located in Bhutan.
Bhutan is the 1st country in the world with specific obligations on people to protect the environment, at least 60 percent of the land should remain under forest cover at all times and that is why Bhutan is very rich in culture, heritage, cuisine and textiles.
Archery is the sport and people practice Buddhism. The only country in the world where it is mandatory to wear the national dress while at work. Bhutan does not have many industries and the main export is renewable energy in the form of hydroelectric power.
